| i had the same problem on our 186 last winter. I pulled the brakes apart and put in new o rings on the brake pistons. If I remember correctly there was 3 one each side but you have to be careful since there was a serial number breake and the one ring is a different size. the new orings made the brakes alot better. |

| The 86 series does have brake wear sensors but with what they cost many have been been replaced with a plug.
If the brake discs get warped they can cause the symptoms you are describing. Leaking piston O-rings will also act that way.
Shut the engine off while holding the brakes on. If the pedal goes down with the engine off you have a leak. If the pedal stays up maintaining manual brakes most likely the plates are warped. |

| Does the brake wear indicator light come on in the dash?? Is the sensor wire hooked up?? IIRC...The 86 series have this feature. |

| | Could be air in the system. You could start by bleeding them. Could be wore out pads.It would take more oil to get them slide together before they grab. Could be aleaky oil seal. Once they do apply do they hold and does the pedal stay up? If it was a seal I would think the pedal would still go down slow just holding it in place. I betting on the wore pads myself. That's what my 1086 did till I put pads in a while back. Gary |
