[b:c33b747bfe]Alright guys I need some opinions and info since I dont know much about this series, found a '58 240 on craigslist (Ill post the link) with a loader, which I think would be perfect size for small chores around the farm: cleaning out the barn, moving firewood etc etc... down side of this is the tractor is located about 2 hours away from me.

I emailed him asking for more pics, how many hrs were on it, and about tuneup/service info. Any things to watch out for on the 240?

Option 2: I found a 43 H on craigslist about 30 mins from my house that I could get for cheap, and I would put a loader on it OR put one on my 46 H that I have now...

here's the link for the add... tell me what you guys think. Thanks in Advance! ~Rob[/b:c33b747bfe]

Looks like the same IH Wagner 120 loader I have on mine. Mine has a more recent paint job and bigger tires on the front and now has wheel weights on the rear, which you will need. I can about guarantee you will pick up the rear of the tractor without added weight, mine did and may still do it. I have PS which, although maybe not a nessesity, will certainly help. Weak point, especially with the loader, is the front steering gears in the bolster and steering arm from the bolster. Mine had evidence of a lashed up repair before I got it and I replaced the gears and arm after I got it. Mineis also switched to 12v and the 6v starter wore out the starter drive gear (Bendix) and spots on the flywheel ring gear. I had my auto-electric guy replace the 6v field coils with 12v and it works great now.
International (that is not a Farmall) 240 is last in line after the SC-200-230 with a C123 engine and that little engine is surprisingly strong. Same 4 speed tranny and no live pto, which is surprising considering it was introduced in 1958. Most tractors should have had lpto by then. For a loader tractor, even with the weak steering, I'd take it over an H any day.

What's wrong with you? 2 hours???? That's nothing! And at that price you better jump quick! A small utility like that is a fantastic chore tractor for a smaller operation and 1500 is a super price. Round here you will pay more for an old Ford N series with no loader!.

LOL. True but I get bored as heck on long drives even though I used to travel farther than that to goto MX tracks.

I'm still waiting on him to email me back with pictures, hopefully its not a basket case. That price is really good, almost too good...

If he listed a phone number I'd urge you to CALL.

Half the time people don't realize they left the email contact activated when they post their ads on craigslist. Many never respond at all, but I've also had a few get testy with me for emailing them instead of calling. Suffice it to say that I didn't do business with them, but now if there's a number, I call.
