Reassembly/Cleaning

I am about to reassemble my engine ('44 H) and wondered if I should wipe the bearing/journal surfaces with anything to clean them prior to putting assembly lube on them and slapping them back together. I bought new main and rod bearings and just want to make sure I have all impurities off of them before putting it back together. Thanks.

service manuals tell you to wash them off with solvent and let them air dry. Rags can leave lint and very small junk behind sometimes. They also say that you can feel very small impurities with your fingertips. (I forget the exact size)

A lint free rag sprayed with carb cleaner works well then a good assembly lube. I my self have used STP oil treatment for decades as an assembly lube due to the fact it stays where it is put. I have part of an engine sitting here in the office that has been in here for over a year now and shows no signs of rust yet and I coated it with STP

I would wipe them clean with a lint free cloth. Remember we are not building an engine for NASCAR then the assy lube will do just fine. I dip the entire piston rod, rings and all in new oil before putting into the cycl. You new engine will outlast you unless you are farming 160A.
