Right To Brag-Farmall 460?

Bought a Farmall 460 LP Gas today. It seems to run good. I drove it in all 5 gears and tried the TA in all and everything seems to work. Also IPTO and Power Steering seem fine and brakes seem good. Also has 2 point and 3 point hitches. The bad: weak battery, needs tuneup, terrible paint/lotsa rust, rear tires totally shot, fronts no good either and IT IS A LP Gas. But at a bit over a thousand, didn't I do okay?

I think so, lp's you don't see to often
so find some good tires and a bat. and of
course tune it up it'l be a good tractor.
take care, stumper

Would you be offended if I said: YOU S**K!

~$1000 for a mechanically sound 460 is a SMOKING deal, but I'm sure you knew that. Especially an LP version, because running on LP the engine will have virtually no wear.

I never see deals like that. The closest I came was a $1500 460 gas with a noisy transmission. Probably an ok deal but too much work involved to fix it.

Well, I plowed with the 460 today. Now, I know it a bit better. Unfortunately that TA which worked fine on the driveway of the seller does NOT work in the field. : ( Also, it seems to VERY MUCH need points, condenser, plugs and the steering is worse than the old Farmall Regular I grew up driving. The 460 could literally break my arm when I go over some of the plow furrows. And I"m finding out the cost of new rear tires.
: ( : ( Anyway it SOUNDS great! kelly

Typical tractor "shipping fever" stuff if you ask me. They run great at the seller's place, no indication of problems.

Still for the price difference between yours, and the one I described, you can almost buy a new TA unit for it!

Tires, if you don't mind waiting and keep your eyes open you can sometimes run across a good set used. They DO exist, but they're rare and you need to come running with a stack of $100's when you see them.

Thanks Mike, for the advice. I'm looking around for tires. Have a couple of junk yards not too far away. Today I'm looking for points, cond., plugs. I'll have to get the steering worked on. The TA can wait. It'd be mighty handy when baling hay, but can get by without it for awhile I'm sure. I'm also looking into delivery and on-farm storage for the propane. Pleasantly surprised to hear price of $2.55/gal. delivered. Thanks again. kelly

There are some pretty good deals from Fredrich Tire in MN. He goes to some of the shows so if you go there delivery is free. Nobody said you had to go to the 2-cyl expo to look at the tires...think of it as free delivery.
