I recently purchased (4) IH window air conditioners. I have been looking for 1 unit and ran across 4 at the same place. These are massive A/C units. Three of them are similar in style but have different model numbers. The oddball units has a much lower serial number and large piece of chrome molding on it. I will be keeping 2 for my collection and passing 2 on.

Interesting. Did not know IH made air conditioners, but they did have their hands in many things. Thanks for sharing the pics!

Interesting. I did not know they made A/C units or refrigertors until seeing posts on these forums.

I believe that they made M1 Garands in the same plant they made A/C and refrigerator Freezers in Evansville Indiana, The refrigeration division of International Harvester became Whirlpool sometime in the Mid 50's.

(quoted from post at 11:20:19 07/24/12) I believe that they made M1 Garands in the same plant they made A/C and refrigerator Freezers in Evansville Indiana, The refrigeration division of International Harvester became Whirlpool sometime in the Mid 50's.

Just to clarify...Whirlpool, founded in 1911, was already making appliances of many types when it acquired IH's refrigeration division in 1955. It also acquired RCA's A/C business and the Seeger Refrigerator Company the same year.

Some of their air condition units were reversible with a switch. You could have heat or air conditioning. Sold in deep south I guess for winter and summer use.

We had one in our home when I was a kid. Ours must've been from the "femineered" era because it had some sort of textured green contact paper on the front.

In the early 50's IH had a woman featured in all of their refrigiation advertising. One feature of the early 50's IH air conditioners and refrigerators were that they were made so that you could cover the AC front or refrigerator door with the uphlostery material or fabric of your choice to match the decor of your room.

We had an ih freezer when I was a kid. It
had a matching linoleum top. It was a
red ugly plaid design. The rest of it was
white.
