Super C oil pressure

I just finished rebuilding the engine on my super c.Just main&rod Bearings- pistons&rings&sleeves and had the head done with new valves-springs-guides, etc. The oil pressure needle stays about 3/4 on the gauge and after an hour of using it it drops to about 1/3 on the gauge. Any thoughts on why it drops that low and where should it be on this style gauge without any numbers on it? I did change the oil and filter after a couple months of light break-in use and it is still the same.

Did you rebuild the oil pump????? I have the same problem with one I just did because I was too cheap to do the oil pump while it was apart. I'm kicking myself in the butt over this one but once the summer work is over the pan is coming off and I'm doing the pump.

FYI cam, crank bearings and oil pump will affect oil pressure.......valve guides/seals will not. All the guides will do is make sure the valves are seating where they shoud and the seals control oil consumption.

Don't worry...Super C's were made to run all day on 8psi oil pressure. If you were at the first mark on the guage you are fine...On later models the last mark is labeled "75" (on my 230)...sooo the first mark is approx. 15psi. I use 15-40 diesel oil in all my tractors. BobinVA

No i did not rebuild the oil pump. All i did was clean it good and stuck it in a bucket it of oil and turned the cam gear to see if it was bringing the oil up thru it.I had to make a gasket for it, the one that came in the gasket kit was so fragile and thin it tore.I thought maybe the gasket paper i used was a few thousands to thick.

Get the IH gasket(s), they control the clearance. If it had one, put one back, etc. The bottom plate can be sanded flat, or bought new if you need it. You can check the clearance with plastigauge. 3/4 is 50-60 psi. I imagine the oil pump is the problem, I overhauled my Super A engine last year, it stays in the 50-60 range all the time-I did replace the bottom plate on the oil pump.

Sounds like you are about right for a super C They would run about 20psi when first started up but once they are hot run around 8-10.
