I inherited a 1947 Farmall H from my grandfather and I am thinking of restoring it. He bought it 2nd hand at an auction in 1972 and has been a great running tractor used to rake/ted hay, run hay wagons and other miscelanious farm chores. I want to do a complete restoration (when I have time) and I have been looking at parts costs and to see what I need to make it an authentic 1947 H. This may seem a bit nit-picking, but the decal kits I have found for a '47 say "McCormick FARMALL" the decals on my '47 say "McCormick-Deering FARMALL" was this ever the case in 1947 or might my tractor not have the origional sheetmetal hood with decals but one from an older model? Is there any way to tell? thanks.

They switched from 'MCcormick Deering" to the later 'MCcormick in late 1946 early 1947, so either would be original to your tractor, as they used up remaining inventory of the old decals before using only the new ones.

IH McCormick Deering Farmall. Maple Hunter Decals and others have them. Ones from CaseIH will not have the Deering.

Great, Thanks for the info. all major components are original on this tractor including all 4 tires and I was worried the hood may have been damaged and replaced with an older one at some point.

I have a 48 super a and went through the same thing.

Had a LOT of trouble finding hood decals with the McCormick Deering.

They stopped using the Deering sometime in 49.

But to add a further complication - mine also has the square IH logo on it. I think they added that sometime around 47 (but could VERY likely be way off on that - so don't quote me - but do pay attention to it).

I could find plenty of mccormik deering - but NOT with the IH logo.

Maple Hunter came to the rescue. Others may carry them, but Maple Hunter were the only ones I talked to who actually KNEW what I was talking about.

The downside is that they only carry them in vinyl - not mylar. So they're a little more expensive - but not too bad. But they're also not the "correct" decal. Mylar would be.

To me that was getting a little too nitpicky to worry about (especially since I didn't really have a choice!) As long as they said the right thing, I was happy.

The vinyl ones look good - just be reeeeeal careful pulling off the protective layer once they're applied. On mine, it really didn't want to come off without lifting the decal.

Congrats on getting your Grandpa's H! I am still trying to get mine. Been a frustrating 23 years.

I know the feeling. It's the only thing from his estate I walked away with and thats because he gave it to me before He died......I was promised about 80 acres of land along with the 20 acre deed with the house and barns, but the paperwork was not finished before he died and his kids thought they should sell it instead of following his intentions. I hope you get it!
