856 final drive

Been going through things on my 856. What oil should be used in the final drives? Mine is an earlier model with the final drives and the transmission oil separate.

Hy-Tran Is correct. Hold on to your wallet, I just bought 3 buckets yesterday, $74 a piece. Funny thing is, I'm pretty sure I paid a little more than that last time I bought that much, when I changed the oil in the 806. -Andy

Brad,

The oil in the final drives can mix with the differential compartment even though there are separate drain plugs. I would consider the intended use and frequency to determine whether to use Hy-Tran or a generic hydraulic oil at a little over 1/3 of what Andy quoted for Hy-Tran. Hy-Tran does seem to keep moisture in suspension better without gelling and clogging filters.
