How do you disassemble the PTO on a WD-9?

So much for RTFM!!! It (barely) has 4 paragraphs and all they talk about is where it is located and how fast it turns. And that is the service manual!?!

I have it out and on the bench. I took the rear plate off and there is a big bearing. Do you take that out and then find some way to turn the nuts off?

All I want to do is change the seal on the engage/disengage lever. If there is an easier way out I am open to that.

Have you checked the parts breakdown on caseih.com for some hints as to how it goes together? I'd be in your shoes right now if I had a WD9 with PTO problems, and that's the next thing I would do.

Failing that I would start removing anything that looked like it could be removed. That's the "kid who took the toaster apart" in me talking.

Considering the era the tractor came from, the bearing might be "staked" on to the shaft. That is, IH put some dimples in the shaft with a center punch to hold it in place when it was assembled.

There is a small bolt that holds the pto shift fork in place. Remove that bolt and the lever will come right out. That bolt is a real bugger to get in and out , but that is how you get to change that little seal. Good luck Hope you have little fingers!!

I wondered if that little bolt might be a start. It does look tough to get at. The nut is up and I was hoping it wasn't one of the tapered pins they loved to use. I have short and fat fingers...doesn't look good.

Matt, fyi there are no W series parts books online. They must figure there is not enough demand for them. Actually even the dealer has to pull out the microfish for them. I bought the paper book from Binder Books.

i scanned the page from my i-h tc-32d parts book on the 9 series. i hope this works.
