oh my... this is over the top, just had to share it.

Just got my parts from Atlas Plating in TX... my assistant at work told me "if your going to do plating you have to go here" did builds custom race bikes.

Did the hood hardware, shifter, hyd levers, throttle, front wheel bolts & few other selected hardware.

It looks AMAZING....

see all the project photos...

I know there are "correct police" (not me) that will not like all that chrome, but it will look as good years from now as it will when you get those parts installed. Their paint will fade, wear or peel off long before that chrome loses it's luster.

I have one great memory myself concerning a Farmall 560... I was visiting "back home" in NE Iowa after 4 years in the service plus a few more. I stopped by one uncle's place and found him baling straw with his 560 and JD baler with a thrower. After he stopped and we talked a while, he told me to jump on and finish that load. After being gone from the farm for probably 10+ years, he didn't know how good that made this old farm boy feel, or maybe he did know.

I say the heck the correct police. If it's what you want then it's correct. If they don't like it they can write a big enough check, take it home and make correct as they want.

yes I know some people will NOT like the look no question about it.... just wanted some little touch the would set it apart. As for the paint quality, I sure hope it lasts. We took this ALL to bare metal, then epoxy primer, and 2 coats of high grade PPG paint. Hoods and fenders were clear coated too.

Hope it holds up :)

You made the right choice using a good grade of paint. Some of that whale oil paint should be outlawed. Even Case/IH would like the looks of your tractor. Hal

Good looking chromed parts. As I have looked at many
pictures of your tractor, I am not seeing the
counterweight on the heat riser on the manifold
which should be visible standing straight up and
down. I see you have the thermostatic spring in
place and hooked up.

I have been silently following this project the last month and a half or so, and I just wanted to say that I think the restoration is turning out beautifully. The addition of the chrome plated parts is going to look great. I always thought it may be kind of neat to chrome the rear and front rims on the tractors instead of sticking with the galvanized look. It might be a little much, and expensive, but I am thinking it would get a lot of attention at the shows.

Just keep up the good work, and I can't wait to see pictures of it all done!

I think it is great. If others don't they can do theirs the way they want. I converted my Dad's 1944 "H" to 12 volt, I take it on tractor rides, some would say no, I like it so much better the 12 volt way.

Funny comment about the chrome wheels, I was TOO close to sending the rear wheels to get chromed... didn't think the front ones would look right since they were red from factory. BUT rear wheels chrome, wow would that look AMAZING! They did turn out great with power coated, but for that cost might have been better off to just chrome them... Very impressed with look now though with smooth castings.

thanks for the support guys... I hope the changes make this tractor something special, that was my goal. Honoring my father with this project, he did so so much for me, and weird to say but this just felt like right thing to do.

I hope the "small" changes make the tractor just a bit more modern is all... LED lights, ceramic manifolds, little chrome, smoothing wheels/weights, ZERO over spray, high quality paint & clear coat, all new wiring & hoses, etc etc

Honestly I think FINALLY have all the parts.... other than couple t-bolt hose clamps I'm waiting for.

Chrome goes on tomorrow night... FYI :)

The Omni/Shopline paint you put on is fine, it is what I use. It is also PPG's cheapest urethane, their best is about 3 times the cost.

Yes you are 100% right... could not see need to go for better.

Did buy better grade clear for hoods & fenders. No clear on tractor chassis.

have you tried better grades?

Hey IH Fan...

was reading this again... yes MANY times during this project I found myself thing of the past and all the memories from our old 560. :)

Yes, the front wheels probably would not look nearly as good chromed. I think a job like that (front and rear rims chromed) would be better suited on a letter series. Someday, maybe I'll put this theory to the test. Is it correct? Well, it's YOUR tractor, so yes... Yes it is. Ha ha!

I think that the tractor is beautiful disassembled. Can't WAIT to see it assembled and polished up. Ever thought of doing a short video and going through some of the detail and putting it onto Youtube & on your 560 site? Just a thought. I would love to hear it run and see it shining in the sun as well! Some of us don't have the ability to travel to the shows that this tractor will be part of.

Lookin' Good!

Yes already planning YouTube video, just waiting for little more progress.

Thx!!!

I just use the grade that PPG recommends for the base clear system, I don't remember the name. No need to use single stage if you are sure you are going to clear it. Also no price difference between single stage urethane and Omni/Shopline base.

I think you painted it with invisible paint, it
should show easily between the bolt heads on head
side of manifold. Only reason I mentioned it is
because I have seen more than one put in the wrong
position over the years.

Dad had a 460 several years after I left home and I got to run it a little when I was home on vacation pulling the swather and hauling big round bales. Loved the smooth sound of those 6 bangers. My uncle lived in some pretty good hills and that TA sure came in handy pulling the baler and load of bales up hill. Sadly, neither our farm or his are still in the family.
Your 560 is going to be one fine looking tractor and you are lucky to still have it in the family. One good thing is that Dad's 460 now belongs to one of my nephews, at least he had it the last I knew of it.
