Gasket or Sealant on Brake Drums?

Has anyone used a gasket or sealant on the brake drums when reinstalling? It would seem easy for water to enter between the drum and the tractor, leading to rust on the friction surfaces inside.

I just put new discs and springs on my Super C. I just wire brushed the two mating surfaces, put a VERY thin coat of grease on it and put it back together. The hole in the right side was plugged so it was really rusty on the inside. I spent a lot of time cleaning them up and repainted them.

that is a no no . keep oil, grease or other lub. total off brake surfaces.oohh, just reread post and it appears on the mounting machined surfaces your talking about. shouldnt be required but shouldnt hurt either if applyed sparingly.

I make sure the drain holes on the bottom are clear, then use Permatex #2 (non-hardening) on only the upper half of the drums. I figure this keeps out rain, but lets out any water that may get in anyway.
