Splitting the M

Need to split my m - crank is badly scored on the rod journals and needs to be ground/replaced.

I will fabricate a rolling dolly to bolt to the frame rails but was curious as to the weight of the front end. Assume that very little is taken off of it. What does the whole front assembly weigh from the flywheel forward?

Oh, it's a narrow front.

Probably about 1500. The big problem is the awkwardness of the front without a loader or such to hold it from tipping over sideways till you get it split. It could be held with a come along from above then roll the rear away. We just made some brackets to bolt to the side then use a set of forks to hold and maneuver the front end.

For that situation just lock the brakes block tires, raise the front just a little and block tractor up under the clutch housing. Since the parts need removed anyway remove the upper and lower bolster along with the radiator at one time if you have a way to handle them. Heavy and awkward. Remove the frame rails leave the two 1/2 inch bolts through clutch housing to engine. Remove oil pan, pump and front engine cover and related parts. If the pistons are to be removed, pull the head. Then remove the two upper bolts and lift engine out to remove the rear cover, rear main seal housing and crank.
