Hey folks, I am going to check out a 7' mower with the 2 pt prongs on it. I am waiting for a call back but I am wondering if you can still get parts and what to look for for problems on these. I don't have the model number or year of it. It's cheap but I'd like to know what to look for so that I can have a usable piece on the back of my 300U. And yes I'll be asking if they have other 2 pt stuff there too ;)

There were several fast hitch mowers. Some had pitmans and some used the wobble box. The wobble box was a much better mower. It would be a model 100. I think most wear parts would still be available.

It could be a problem to hook to a 300U due to the difference in 2 pt hitches. My dad had one for a 350 which has the newer hitch and it wouldn't work on the old hitch as there were 2 chains that needed to attach to the hitch and the older style didn't have the same hook up.One chain controlled how low you could lower the mower and the other one is what kept the cutting bar in the right position when raising the mower.

The correct fast hitch mower for 300 utility had a top link that was specific to the mower. It attatched to the rotating top link hole on the fast hitch, and went diagonaly to the left fast hitch prong, where it had a triangle shaped piece that rotated on a round shaft as you raised and lowered the mower. This is what raised and lowered the cutter bar; it was dark blue ,the rest of mower was red. On the tractor itself, the height stop was a short chain from an angle iron on left axle housing to a bracket attatched to left lift arm. It had a pitman arm. I do not remember the model #, but it was way beyond wore out when dad sold it. I now own the 300, and have adapted/fabricated a #100 balanced head mower(pitmanless)to work. It is a way better mower, smoother running, better cuting; uses a greasable pin on the knife instead of a non-greasable ball and socket.
MARK

The correct IH mower for a 300 Utility is the No. 28 for fast hitch equipped tractors. I obtained this information from my IH Application Listing of fast hitch and mounted equipment for Farmall and International tractors. Even with the No. 28 mower you need a completer package part no. 459208R91 or 459371R91 depending on if your tractor has traction control for proper installation on your tractor. The No. 100 balanced mower is suitable for the fast hitch as well along with the 459852R91 completer package and the 1/2" thick filler plates as the mower must be equipped with the small points for a Farmall 230. I have no knowledge what are the contents of the completer packages I made reference too as I'm just sharing information from the IHC publication I have. Since this publication is dated in the later 1950's some of the later follow-on mower models might be suitable for your tractor as well. Good luck in your hunt and any purchase you might make, Hal.

Not all fast hitch mowers are the same. For a 300U,
the mower was kind of offset to the left due to the
utility's narrower track. Looking from the rear of
the mower, the 300U's mower will have the two belt
pulleys NOT above/below one another. Parts not a
problem.
