Need local paint examples in SE WI or N IL

I am supposed to paint my 1951 WD-9 IH 1102b. It seems that color doesn't exist anymore. I now need to decide if I want to paint my tractor IH 50 or IH 2150. It would be really great if somebody has an example of both, but I would be happy to see an example of either.

I used PPG's Omni paint code 71310 on my Troy Bilt tiller in 2006. Hal

Sorry no examples as of right now. When I bought my paint last week at the dealer he said that 2150 was the color for the older tractors of that era so thats what I got. Looks red to me, but now you have me curious what is this #50 red... darker or lighter?

Here is a pic of IH 2150 I sprayed four years ago. Still looks good. You are welcome to come out and check it out sometime if you'd like. It still gets used on the small haybine and baler...not to mention long days in the tobacco fields. It still looks good even though the drawbar doesn't have much paint on it anymore.

Buy a pint of each and compare them. Pictures, particularly on the internet won't tell you much. Don't be surprised if 2150 has a noticable orange tint to it. I have never used or compared 50.

I was hoping somebody had a tractor painted with 50 that I could get in the truck and go check out.

I might look you up for your special non-orange 2150.

here's what I used....

just sheet metal/fenders was clear coated... not on the tractor chassis

there's couple hundred pics at link below.

All I did was have the dealer use 20% more red toner 20% less orange, if I remember right. It did not change a lot, probably could get by with 30%. I have gotten used to the orange tint. Some of Steiners lights etc come painted in a darker red -- they don't look right to me. Sometimes that tint is the dealers fault. First tractor I painted was a C, the 71310 had an orange tint on the cast, but the sheet metal looked ok, I believe it got better with age. Then I painted a Super H, definitely too much orange. Then for my 460 I began experimenting. Finally decided that a little orange is ok. I don't think 2150/PPG 71310 had that orange tint, but that came about in 1961 after I left the farm. The original color is impossible to find, it is gone.

If you go to my post of July 5 I have photos of my units that are all painted with 2150 that I got from CNH. The post that you are looking for will be "What in my toy box." It is on page ten at this time. Hope this helps. DonR of Mn

That's what I am trying to avoid. I have seen a lot of restorations that end up looking like a tomato color. I'm not sure if that is cheap paint, what 2150 is "supposed" to be or what.

Yours looked very nice. Nice and red and no orange. I guess I will have to go to RPRU to know for sure.

My email is open and if you send me an email with your email address I can send you some photos of my Super C which was painted with unaltered IH 2150 Red/Rouge from the CaseIH dealership with hardener. I can't attach photos to this forum for some reason so can't add it to your thread, Hal.

If too red it is probably TSC or something--I think all the aftermarket people think it is supposed to be dark red, I don't think that is correct. You might look at DuPont Nason, the equivalent of PPG Omni. I have read that it does not have the orange tint, but have never actually seen any. Code for IH 50 is 7410, 2150 is 96766.
