My father-inlaws old H is dripping gas from the bottom of the carb when it sits. The sediment bulb valve must not be doing its job because it will drain the tank overtime. The main load screw area has been brazed from a long time ago. The old girl starts right up and runs fine so I don't think its a float or float valve issue. What I am puzzled about is the thing the IT manual calls a filler on the bottom of the bowl. The gas seems to be coming from this area or where it has been brazed. I've never seen this filler in any rebuild kits before. Does this ever go bad and need replacing and if so how? Also is the shut off valve replacable or is there some kind of packing it needs? The tractor is 200 mi. away and would like to fix it for him when I go up again. please advise and thanks....Fred

It is a graphite packing that sits in the load screw housing. Last time i checked you can get it though CNH or you make your own with a graphite rope only take a tiny bit to stop the drip. As for your fuel bowl is is most likely shot seats are gone etc. they are around 30 bucks for a new one.

That filter is nothing more than a piece of felt. It is there to allow condensation to escape, and to prevent dust from getting in. It is sometimes normal for a few drips of gas to escape from that hole, but if it drips steadily, all the time, you have another issue, and most likely it will need a new needle valve and seat, possibly a new float or at least properly adjusting the float.

If it is dripping from that brazed repair, there is nothing you can do except for having it repaired again, or even better, find another carburetor, or at least a new bottom bowl.

If the sediment bowl shut-off does not stop the flow of fuel, your best bet is to replace the entire sediment bowl assembly. If your problem is only that gas drips out around the shut-off lever, the cure might be as simple as tightening the packing nut.
