Hydraulic leak farmall h

Hey guys, I went to do some brush hogging today and my hydraulics were totally empty. Lost 6 quarts in 9 months... It's leaking from the frame...The place where you would break it down to replace one of the main gaskets. Does anyone have any fixes for this that don't involve a full disassemby of the frame? Thanks!

Frame? Do you mean frame of the hydraulic pump
which would of course be the reservoir. No hydraulic
oil in the FRAME and no gasket between frame on an
H. I think you have a seal leaking or what an H
likes to do once in a while is blow the gasket
between reservoir and the outlet manifold the outer
pressure pipes screw into. Did you take the cover
off below and take a look up at pump.

H's have a belly pump and reservoir.

Refill the reservoir with hydraulic fluid and then remove the cover
plate from under the tractor and see where it's leaking from.
Probably seal at drive.

If so:

Unscrew plumbing from top & sides of the tractor. Those pipes
screw into the reservoir. Remove the cover from under the tractor
and pull the 2 cotter keys and slide the rings back on each end of
the drive assembly. It will now drop out.

4 bolts hold the belly pump assembly in place. Remove them and
the entire, very heavy, pump drops out.

It's now easy to access and replace the seal.

The likely issue is the seal on the Liftall pump. It is a heavy pump, and a floor jack and help ballancing it is needed. Long threaded rods with the same size and pitch as the retainer bolts also works well.
Process is to remove all the Elbow fittings, the fill cap, and the control rod.
Remove the tin inspection plate behind the pump lower casting which sticks down and has key holes in it on each side.
The inspection cover allows access to the pump drive shaft. remove the two cotter pins and remove the shaft. Remove the bolts, and replace with the threaded rod, or with help, use a floor jack to lower the pump. (heavy!!)

To remove the seal (common seals can be used from bearing companies, the size is readily matched)a brass or aluminum flat is placed between the teeth of the pump gears to lock them from turning. a 1/2" key stock, or piece of flat 2"X1/2"X 2 feet long iron strap is used to remove the coupling. It is right hand threads, lefty loosy (CCW) to remove. The seal can be pulled from there and replaced. Attempt to place the new seal so it doesn"t ride in a groove made by the old seal. Ues chassis grease on the seal to assure it is lubed when first operated.
Easy to do 4 hours if not done before, 2 hours if the second time. Jim

The axle housing to rear frame connection can leak gear oil,
however the hydraulic assembly is completely separate and must
have a separate leak.

(quoted from post at 23:29:10 07/11/12) It's leaking where the axle housing meets the frame.. Underneath.... Is this descriptive of a hydraulic pump needing a seal?

That may be where the oil is coming out, but that is not where it is leaking.

The hydraulic system on this tractor is a self-contained unit. Follow what the other guys are saying on how to remove it. You need to remove it to find and fix the leak.
