Super M locked up rear end

I inheirited my grandfather's Super M and when we went to get it the rear end is locked up. Seems that the gears are changing, but the back tires don't move. My dad had this tractor overhauled about 8-10 yrs ago and it was running great. I would really like to have it running since this is what I learned how to plow on.

Has it been inside? Sometimes dampness will get inside an engine, trans. or rear end, and cause things to rust just enough to cause them to lock up. Have you tried raising the rear wheels off the ground or gently towing it a few feet? Just some thoughts. Good luck.

I would bet the brakes are rusted up before I would bet on the rear end being rusted up. Like said below, try to pull it gently on something loose grass/ground/gravel. Just nothing like concrete or asphalt.

I did that and ended up calling a flatbed wrecker to pick it up. The brakes are tight when pushed. Guess this would be a good place to start. Thanks

No, it hasn't been inside. I'm afraid that there is going to be more that is rusted than I thought.

Just for giggles, pull the shifter and make sure all three shifting forks are aligned with each other, and centered.

It may be stuck in two gears even though it "feels" like it's shifting.

like the other guy said breaks, IH disk brakes lock up over night sometimes, really just there nature. Take them apart clean the insides very well, sand blast the parts if needed, also replace disks as well. Disk beaks of that era really need service every 6months to a year, mainly cleaning.
