IH 786 clutch

The clutch will not engage when the engine is hot and at idle, I have to bring the throttle up to 1/3 to 1/2 then it will engage. When it is cold it works fine. Is the problem connected with the TA that does not work?

Sounds like all TA to me.

When the hydraulic presure is high enough to engage the TA it does. When oil is cold pressure is higher. Same with the higher RPM's, the presure goes up.

Rpm's and temp would not effect the clutch.

Like Gary mentioned, it does sound like strictly a TA problem. Very similar symptoms to what my 886 was doing. I was told by knowledgeable I.H. mechanic to NOT drive the I.H.'s with hydraulic TA's when they are not working properly. Can cause more damage very quickly. I just had the dealer put a 15 year warranty TA in my 886. Cost was not as bad as I had thought it could be $3,000 for parts and labor.
