Hudraulics on Farmall A ?

I have a 1941 IH Farmall A.

Can I put the Hydraulic System from a Super A on to it? Is the A abile to accept Hydraulic parts?

IIRC the very last few production As had the engine provision for the SA use of a live hydraulic pump. Under the distributor drive there should be a plate (or cover) that when removed allows pump mounting. If it is not there, the two solutions are to mount a belt driven or front mount pump through the crank hole, or to swap engine blocks with an SC or other hydro equipped tractor. There is a possibility that the block was swapped out with a newer block during the tractors history, good luck. Jim

Short answer is NO, forget it.

If you happen to have an engine that allows mounting the pump, you will still need a Super A bell housing to mount the main unit. Then you need a Super A fuel tank because the line out of the A tank will want to pass through the hydraulic system. Then you need a Super A panel and steering shaft support to mount the control levers. Then if you want to mount an implement to actually USE the hydraulics, you need Super A fenders to mount the Super A rockshaft. Then if you want to keep your rear light, you need a Super A mounting bracket. And throw in a couple final drive housings so things will bolt up there. You get to reuse the seat and steering mechanism, but that is about it.

The hand lift levers were part of the specific implement. So what you need depends on what you want to use it for, and mostly depends on finding a complete implement.

No you cannot put the pump from a SA on your tractor the block doesent have a place for it. You can run a hy pump off the pto or the belt pulley. Or you can have the front pulley machined and drive a pump out in front of the grille opening. I have a set-up for that system and otheres that will operate of either the pto or the belt pulley. What implements are you wanting to use as i also have levers for sifferent implements also cults. They can be lifted by hand and are easy to use. You can also use the exhaust system for lifting which i also have.

Like Jim said, the hand lifts came with the implements.

Each one had its own lift.

So, when you buy the implement make sure it comes with the hand lift.

Implements for the A are VERY rare to find complete, because there are so many parts and it's been so long. You'd drop the plow out in the fence row, then put the lift mechanism up against the wall in the shed. Fast foward 60 years and things have been moved, the shed's fallen down, someone's scrapped all the "old junk" sometime back in the '60s... Parts turn up missing.

If you really want to do something useful with a tractor that size and you don't have years to search for complete implements, get a Super A. Implements are much easier to find.

...and NO you cannot mount Super A implements on an A. Sorry.
