F20 Flywheel Installation Tool

Does anyone have a photo and or specs for the tool IH dealerships used to install F20 flywheels? My father-in-law and I are working on 3 F20s and thought it might be worthwhile to have one fabricated.

I believe it would have a female end to thread onto the crankshaft with a threaded male end for using the big retaining nut to push it along the tool's shaft and onto the crankshaft. The thread size obviously would match the crank, but how long should the tool be overall, and how long should the male vs. female end be? Also, should the outside diameter of the female end match the OD of the crankshaft or be maybe 1.64" smaller so it'd be easier to rotate it for aligning the pin?

What do you guys think?

I borrowed a tool like you are talking about. It threaded on to the flywheel and had a threaded hole in the center you would put a threaded rod in. It also had a bearing you would put between the flywheel and the nut when you put the flywheel on to keep it from trying to spin when you pulled the flywheel on with the nut. I would also be interested in getting a tool like this. The one I borrowed was made by OTC tool who I guess is not making it any longer.

Why would you need a tool? Simply heat the flywheel on your bbq grill to 300F, don your welding gloves, and slide it on. Freeze the pin. Takes 2 people to slide it on and another to install the pin. Works like a champ. It"s a 10 minute job. Learned it from a seasoned F-20 guy and it was crazy how easy it was.

Yea, but what if you don't have a BBQ grill and are doing it yourself? That is why I would prefer a tool. I plan on making one, then I can install the flywheel by myself in 10 minutes or less.

So did your tool allow you to install the flywheel in 10 minutes or less? And how much time did you spend fabricating the tool? Knowing the level of press fit on that joint, you can be sure it will be stout.
