Farmall 300 starter

I've converted my Farmall 300 to 12 volt and the starter has finally given up, (armature is shot) I'm wondering if a 12 volt starter from a 350 will fit on the 300. I don't know of any chassis difference but I don't have a 350 to compare with to make sure. Thanks

They are the same. Most if not all 350 gas tractors were 6v. Diesel was 12v. But do not worry either is fine and dandy. Were it mine, I would be sure to replace the drive with a new style with cushion pinion, and small return spring. Much improved. Jim

Jim: are you talking about the starter with the solenoid actuated starter drive instead of the one with the relay for the motor and the inertia actuated drive?

A 12 volt starter for a 350 will work fine on a 300 that has been converted to 12 volts, and the new style drive is inertia engaged like older style not the pull in solenoid type. Not likely you will get a new or rebuilt starter though that comes equipped with the newer style. You would have to remove the drive and install newer style.

All 350 starters for gas engines use inertia spin out pinions. The new one looks different, but does not drive through a big spring. There is no electrical component to the drive. The starters all look the same. I am looking up the serial break on 12v tractors, Ill get back. Jim

104196A2R seems to be a 12 volt part number. The on line diagrams do not break down the 12v change over point. The LPG 350 were 12 volt, the diesels were not close to the same as they were made by Contenental. Either 6 or 12 volt starters will work fine with the new drive. Jim
