H arcing

When I start my H there is arcing between ampmeter box and steering post. The wireing is all new.Took ampmeter and light switch unit out of box and no arcing.Any ideas.Thanks Bill

Your ammeter must be faulty with a short internal to its case.

What position is the switch in when it arcs? If it arcs in any position, you either have it hooked up incorrectly, or it is defective. OR it could be a bad connection. Unless I'm mistaken the light switch grounds to the tractor for the charging system on the older systems (4 position switch) What sort of charing system do you have?

It grounds through that connection. Clean it up and put it back together.

Like the other post said that sw and its mounting must have a good ground as its part of the charging system clean the mount up and your problem will go bye bye. When you are done use an OHM meter one lead on battery ground and the other on the sw mount housing.

Thanks for the help.I have a one wire alternator and new harness and ampmeter.Ampmeter shows a good charge,will clean between box and post.Bill

You didnt say you have an alt. Something is wrong somewhere are you sure you have it wired correct. The ground of all parts of the system is for a generator. Where is the Diode in the system better find out where you have something wired wrong before the Alt goes up in smoke. I just finished a SC with alt and was wired wrong and burnt up a new Alt they fed the 12v from the point side of the coil for beginers then had wire on posts 1@2 wrong.
