Rough running perkins Diesel

I have a 3 cylinder Perkins Diesel that runs rough, it spits and sputters and blows a lot of white smoke when you first start it up. There is no water in the oil. It runs hot and pushes the coolant out the over flow when it heats up.It still has all of its power. Any thoughts would be appericated.
Could this be a blown head gasket? Or could the head be cracked?

Those are the two easy guesses when you start building pressure in the cooling system like that. I have seen a lot of engines not mix fluids even with a bad head gasket.

have the rad cap off and full , then start it and watch for bubbles. a crack or gskt. usually has bubbles appearing quickly after start up. am presuming that your rad core is not plugged to cause overheating and fluid loss.
