Farmall H Seat Pivot Tube

After a lot of fighting I got the seat pivot tube removed from my '52 H. I am removing it to replace the rubber bushings to help get some of the waggle out of the seat. I have a couple questions, though. With the pivot tube being such smaller diameter than the inside of the seat tube, [b:9ccca03bad]are the bushings expected to take up all the slop? Are the seat pivot tube washers (#10 in parts catalog) suppose to be in a certain position?[/b:9ccca03bad]

I am also installing the "Heavy" spring. I figured that was easier than going on a diet ;)

Thanks!

I have replaced those bushings on a couple of those Monroe seats. You will have a hard time squeezing them in but they will firm up the seat nicely. You will also need an oxygen mask when you install the new seat spring. You will be sitting up in much thinner air!

I just redid mine on my 50 H. I used some lube on the bushings and they slid right in. On mine the washers that you are talking about are lock washers that go on the out side. They will really stiffen the seat up. HTH

Yes, the washers go on the inside to center the pivot tube.
They go just inside the rubber bushings on each side.

Thanks, guys. I had a heck of a time getting the second bolt loose on that pivot rod. I was asking about the washers because one of them was past the step in the pivot rod. The more I look at it and as I put it back together it looks like they are suppose to stop at the step and contain the bushing, but that washer is wallowed out and goes over the step. Oh well.. it's only 60 years old :)

By the way, any tricks on getting that second bolt loose after the first one breaks free?

I ran into that problem on one of the seats. I carefully bent the angled seat support bracket on one side so I could slide off the seat support. Then vice grips or a pipe wrench (dont't recall which) one the seat support pivot rod along with the box wrench got the bolt out.
