timing SH stage II problems

Yesterday I was cleaning distributor off SH. The center fork fell out of distributor and I tried to put it back in the same spline. But i am not sure i did. I am involved in reassembly after installing sleeves, pistons and rings. i have #1 at TDC and it looks like the button is at #1 position on distributor.
Any Recomendations?

It is in the ballpark. She should fire up then you can advance or retard as needed.

I always had to roll the engine over with a hand crank to find #2 so to get the firing order correct.

Clockwise or counter clockwise .. it always confused me.

But VA Gasman is is correct. It will fire and run if even a little rough using the method you have mentioned. Everything else from there... timing, governor and carburetor jets is basically your "fine tuning".
