The wire from the sending unit to the gauge is broken about 12 inches from the block. Is there any way to repair that? Would a regular wire straight double female union work?
The wire that is broken is about 1/16 diameter solid copper.

It looks like that but it has a capillary sized hole in the center (it is a tube). the repair can be made by a instrument maker, but it requires the expansive working fluid, the closing of the cappilary tube while keeping the hole open, and then adjusting the needle accuracy. Sorry, it doesn"t get easily repaired. Jim

That "wire" is actually a capillary tube. The sensing bulb/capillary lead/gage head is a sealed system that is partially filled with a low boiling point liquid (ether?) at the factory. Unfortunately it not designed to be field serviceable.

I have heard of - but never seen - a successful field repair. But it requires special soldering tools, a vacuum pump, a small quantity of the correct fluid fill and a cold box. The only practical repair then is to replace the gage/lead/bulb assembly.
