Just aquiredan IH 350. It was running when I bought it, drove it on the trailer. Couldn't get it to turn over to unload it.
Put the charger on it and it's cooking at the 20 amp mark with the charger set on 10 amps.
My question is the ammeter is pegged off the scale to the right and stays there when I take the charge off. Is that normal?
Gentleman I bought it has three moe 350's if anyone is interested.

Not normal with the charger off. Probably stuck, not too easy to replace on that model.

Much depends on location. there was one on craigslist locally a couple of years ago for $1800 for a while, I didn't see it in person so I don't know the details of the condition but it was supposed to run well according to the seller. I wanted to buy it but I didn't have enough ready money.

If you disconnect the Bat wire from the Regulator, that indication of charge might go away. Someone probably put the battery in negative ground, then polarized the generator (or not) and now the contacts are stuck, making the generator heat, and the battery to discharge. If you were towing it 15 miles or more, the air flowing around the gen probably kept the smoke inside. If my theory is correct, resetting the ground, and unsticking the VR cutout contacts might make it go just fine. Before starting it repolarize by jumping from Bat to Arm for one second. Jim

Hi GordoSD: I would be interested in the 350 20miles East of Sioux Falls........
I hope I turned on Email..

I bought one from Steel Wheel Ranch last summer for $2500, repairable sheet metal, no large dents, good TA, 12 volt, runs ok, power adjust wheels with lousy tires and bad rims. Some hydraulic leaks. Price is maybe $500 too high, but this tractor will have an engine overhaul, transmission work if needed (appears to be ok), complete disassembly, all seals and gaskets replaced, bearings where needed and base clear paint. I don't care for the power adjust wheels and will probably try to talk Mike into trading for wheels and double bevel rims. Mike is a little high on his pricing, but I have bought 3 tractors from him because I know what I am getting, with relatively few defects.

This 350 has very wide rims, maybe 13's? They have the two raised ribs where you can set them either in or outside rib.Tires are excellent, loaded, Goodyears, Fronts look new, TA works, engine runs strong. Tach works Tin is 95%. No fenders, no PTO shield. No FH. Triple hyds. Glass/cork gas gauge. All emblems and they are good, do not need plating. Tore the brakes apart today, they are toast.
