axle seal on a H

Sorry but I can't make heads or tails of the other answers. To repair the leak at the rear axle on my 1944 "H" can I take the wheel off and the end cap and replace the seal there?

Yes, that's all you have to do. Put a sheet of paper over the axle to slide the seal over so you don't nick the rubber on burrs or the edges of the keyways. Check your outer axle bearing for slop while you are in there, they can make the seal leak if they are worn.

(quoted from post at 23:55:40 06/29/12) Zachary, that is a great idea on the paper.

This place never ceases to amaze me .. that really "is" a slick idea and so noted.

I was dreading the thought of having to polish up the entire axle shaft to slide these on. It's normally some of the simplest of solutions that work the best.

Actually that wasn't my idea originally, someone said that on here before which is how I knew to do it when I replaced one of mine a couple of years ago.
