$4000 plus Hs and Ms

...if all these "parade ready" Straight Hs and Ms listed lately start moving for even half that money...I"m gonna get some listed and retire!!!!!

Agreed ! I dont think they actually get what is asked, do you ? On the local Craigs List, I see the same over-priced tractors listed for months at a time. When did a straight M with amatuer paint and weather checked tires become worth $4400.00 ??? Laughable !! Farm auctions are a better place to get a price that is reasonable IMO.

A big dang tractor with substance is very tempting to wanna bee 20 acre ""farmers"". When dreaming, buyers and sellers are both guilty. Jim

Farm auctions are a good place to go for overpriced junk from what I have seen. Either way there sure are a lot of overpriced Hs and Ms lately on our local Craigslist. It seems like $2000 is the going price for an average to poor unrestored M. That's nuts!

Think I will have one of those high dollar H's by the time I get all the oil seals replaced, a few bearings, some new tires, a couple valve seats, a new wiring harness along with all the other little things that need to be done.

Heck, its only money and I'm having fun. Some people go to the casino, some have boats, some campers and on and on. Joe

I can give 3 recent farm auction buys that I have first-hand knowledge of....
706 diesel in nice shape,WF, useable tires $2900.00
756 diesel, very nice, new rears, clutch slipping, 3000.00
806 gas,WF,cab,good tires,TA , etc. 3400.00
I havent seen any Craigs list tractors like these listed for less than 5500.00 lately. Unless you count a beat looking 706 gas ,NF, with bald rears and TA out for 2900.00 !!

That's like the guy who bought that one for $200 at some auction in Nebraska. I think I would own a 706 diesel for that money. Around here you waste all day waiting for what you wanted and then it sells for 10-20% more than it's worth (not really...in true theory an auction establishes fair market value) I have watched SMV signs sell for more than you can buy them new at Farm & Fleet. A new Millermatic 252 sells for $1700. I waited around for a used Millermatic 250 that sold for $1500. I would rather have the latest model for the extra $200.

Yes, there is always an element of uninformed/idiots at any sale, but, I think a farm auction still has more rational buyers who are only gonna pay what it is worth in the real world. You can still get a decent H at a sale for 1,000.00 I have found. Not on Craigs though !It seems to me that alot of the Craigs listers are fishing for a sucker to come along....

Yeah, you can buy a Farmall C for the same price of a M or H or less.

Prices on Craigs list, magazines, and to a lesser extent on this forum are meaningless. Excluding the SMTA, I consider the letter series is still at $500-$2500 (which is too high) depending on condition.

Same here .. in this area the going rate hovers around 1500 to 2200 for even a tired old cub.

Then toss in a belly mower you would think they had struck oil.

An H of most any scale, if it runs at all starts at 2K and goes up. There is nothing to assure that it's not already destroyed.

An M starts around 2200 if it runs or not.

Tack the word "vintage" in the description and you would think it was gold plated.

All ridicule aside ... there are a few deals to be made but come far and few between. My last quote on scrap price was somewhere around 650 less hauling it. In my mind a fair market value would begin at 750 bux less hauling.

I bought a 41H for $500 in decent shape, it was 90% complete with the exception of bad tires and one bad rear rim which I had a set of rims and tires from a H that is being complely restored. It had near perfect metal 98% ran great just need a new manifold (all fuel). There are still some good deals but are getting harder to find due to scrap prices. Now since buying the H I have bought and installed complete working shutters, rebuilt mag, good all fuel manifold, early pto shaft, and complete set of hm 238 cultivators. With that being said I still have less than $1000 in it.

how about a field ready, good TA, straight tin, new front tires, excellent rear Goodyears, new Interstate battery, runs like a Rolex, 350 rowcrop for 2650?

There are deals on Craigslist but you have to JUMP when you see them. You can't hem and haw for 2-3 days because they will be GONE!

You whine about how there are no good deals, but how would you know? If it's a good deal it isn't up for long.

And you better keep $XXXX in cash at home so you can read the ad and drive straight there.

absolutely right
I compete with all the local tractor people and a few
small dealers. One of the dealers has an employee check
CL 3 or 4 times a day. And his rollback is always ready to go.
Last tractor I bought from him, when I asked where he found it,
he said 20 miles down the road on CL.
He chuckled and said "Beat ya"
(still was a good deal, CL deal would have been better)

$1000 Farmall H with a loader on my local Cragslist this morning.

Says it runs and everything works. It's sitting where you can tell it's been moved recently.

The CL bargain I missed out on was a 300 with good tires, nice paint, FEL, 3pt. hitch, and it ran good. Seller was asking $1500.

You are probably very correct ! The ones I see that linger for months at inflated prices are not the only ones that are listed. The deals and good buys are all gone FAST !

I have two regrets. 1 - Farmall SMDTA for $3200. No phone number so I emailed the seller 42 minutes after posting the ad. He emailed back that it was sold. 2 - Last Farmall H made in 1941 with a Wood belly mower and new rear tires for $1100. It was Saturday afternoon and I didn't have cash at the house...plenty at the bank but... Somebody else had $1100 in cash at their house...Who leaves $1000s of dollars in cash in their house!?! I am new school, I don't even have $100 in my wallet.
