as i am nearing completion of an in fram overhaul on the 706 i purchased.I am wondering what most of you guys use for engine oil. like what wieght for summer and winter and any particular brand that most of ya use for the 706.Also I have read some about low ash oil.Would it be right to use a low ash oil rather than something else

Low ash oils are designed for diesels and high compression engines. It would work fine. Brands are a personal choice. There aren't many different packagers these days. They use spot market oils and additives. The formulations are pretty much all the same. When you buy an oil read the bottle to see who the packager is. You will quickly realize that most oil comes from only a few different locations.

You can't go wrong with a 15w-40 multi weight oil. Shell Rotella seems to be the brand of choice, and is what I use, but that brand is also widely available at most any farm store, which might be why it is so popular. Other brands are probably just as good, including the Case-IH brand.

We run the 30 weight low ash year round from Case I H in the gas tractors and the Case I H #1 diesel oil in the diesels in 30 weight year round . Spending a little more on oil is worth it to me to run what is called for. And on 706 gassers the need for a low ash is needed.

Morrie, I would run the CASEIH low ash oil in a 30 wt summer, and 10 wt in the winter. Yes it is expensive but all oil is. That low ash oil was developed back in the late 60's and really helped us out with those engines. I would not use a diesel oil .
