New Super A clutch Problem

I recently replaced the clutch friction plate and the pressure plate. But the clutch does not fully disengage. Should I adjust the pressure plate. My pedal throw is good? I thought the pressure plates came pre adjusted?

Thanks

You have the clutch pedal adjust correctly ? Will it not disengage at all or just takes a min for the gears to stop before shifting ?

The pressure plates are supposed to be pre-adjusted. You might check and confirm that the adjustments are all the same height. Be sure the the pedal has the correct free play, about 1 inch, I don't have my manual handy. Anyway adjusting the pressure plate usually does no good as all it does is change the pedal free play, easier to adjust the pedal. Andrew is correct on the gear clash -- otherwise you have something installed wrong, or the pilot bearing is dragging. Good idea to replace the pilot and release bearings with the clutch. Be sure to lubricate the new pilot bearing as it cannot be greased from the outside.

The clutch Friction plate is installed flat side towards the engine.

All the fingers were the same height

There is approx 1 in of freeplay in the pedal I tried using less but that didnt help

I did replace the pilot bearing(greased) as well as the release bearing. I think the pilot bearing dragging might be the problem I have a gut feeling

I was reading on this forum one person had a similar problem, but was due to a transmission assembly error ( I didn't work on the tranny) and another member mentioned that the splines could be catching the plate

Andrew, Its def not the gears I put the tractor in 1st and turned the engine with the crank with the clutch in (with help) The tractor moves about 2 inches then the clutch slips.

The pilot bearing does not have to be bored after installation right?

I will try messing with the pedal adjustment but I will most likely split the tractor and check on the pilot bearing and the splines on the shaft. When I figure out the problem I will be sure to keep everyone informed. Thanks for the Help, any advice is greatly appreciated!!

Two issues as potential sources of the drag:
If thwe friction disk was accidently bent when putting the two halves of the tractor back together, it will drag substantially.
If the splines on the clutch shaft are worn, the new disk will bind on them and be forced into the Flywheel.
Either will require a resplit. Using a dremel grinder to dress the splines so the wear is not an edge, or removing .065" depth of the splines in the clutch disk hub to allow it to wear where the other disk was happy will also work.

Putting the disk on the shaft when split and turning the shaft will show if there is an issue with a warped hub from installation. Jim
