Farmall C Serial Number

I am looking at a Farmall "C" for possible purchase. The serial number doesn"t seem to match up to anything that this site has listed. The serial number of this tractor is: FC5012243. Can anyone out there tell me what year this tractor is? Also, because of where the serial number is located, under the seat, on the side of the tool box, is it possible that the seat could have been changed and therefore the serial number might not be accurate? Thanks for any help!

Is it posaible that someone replace or made a new tag Wrong? 501 was first C made.Mabe your is
#2243 built? 1948. What do you have for casting #

The number is 5,000,000 plus several hundred thousand too high. Post the engine serial found under the #1 spark plug, a couple of people on this forum can get close to the chassis serial.

I have a friend looking at the tractor. I will try to have him get the engine number and post it here. Thanks for the help!

The engine number can be found stamped on a flat under the number one plug over the distributor and above the governor and should be almost behind the throttle rod. The flat will be about 5/16" wide by about 1.5" long.
