Should I save a Farmall AM?

Found a Farmall AM on the weekend. No cylinder head on the motor, but the rest was there. It is basically a Farmall M, with a Lucas distributor, Lucas ignition coil, Lucas generator etc etc. Not quite so good as a Super AM, because it does not have the three point linkage built into the gearbox lid. On the other hand there don't seem to be too many Farmall AM tractors left in existence and I do not think it would be very expensive. The tyres are completely dead and are (I dread to say) 13.5-32. The final question to consider… is it possible to have too many Farmall M / AM tractors?

They are a nice drawbar tractor. Your operation does some tillage work with pull type equipment, but the message I would send is: could you put a (common enough) head on it, and have a tractor to sell (realizing it will not bring Bucks, but to keep it out of the iron melters hands) If the entire tractor has been trashed, and the engine is stuck and headless, and needs some 1800+ A$ of tires, it may be a project for someone else. Jim Who"s family has 15 or so farmalls.

Save it.Even if you dont fix it,the scrappers will
not get it!Ms are great tractors,I have two.And
NO,you can never have too many tractors, espeacially
an M.

Farmallboy15, unless you live in Austraila then likely you never will, Would be hard to import one to the US.

I have seen a couple Super AMD's on ebay i believe that were in the U.S. and isn't Sadfarmall in the U.S? I know they are rare in the states for sure.

there are plenty of AM farmalls around cheeck out ebay at the minute. We have two and i just got an AM7D last weekend just got to get it home now. M heads shoud be the same. Try Inverell tractor wreakers or Clancys Parts in Toowoomba if you are looking for international parts they both know what they are talking about

Thanks folks. I can confirm that I am indeed in Australia. I do keep an eye on ebay, but have not come across a genuine Farmall AM yet. Seen plenty of Farmall M tractors. I know this is being picky, but I have two Farmall M tractors and they are not quite the same as Farmall AM tractors. Farmall AM tractors never have magneto ignition. They do not have the same distributor as U.S. Farmall M tractors. They always have a kerosene motor. When fitted with belt pulley, the pulley should be cast iron with a leather outer. They have different lights and a different instrument panel from Farmall M tractors. In this case I believe the motor is not stuck. I think the chap has the head for it. I'll see what the price is. Hard for me to see it rotting away unloved.
