Initial Pressure Plate adjustment for IH B275

Dewie

New User
I recently picked up an IH B275 with a non functional two stage clutch.

Two owners ago replaced the clutches/pressure plate then passed away. The tractor sat outside for 4 years before the owner previous to me picked it up. He used the tractor for a year before the clutch gave up on him - it simply wouldn't disengage.

When I got the tractor home I separated the engine from the transmission and found the release bearing had seized. This seized bearing then chewed the clutch fingers off until they no longer worked properly.

The clutch discs are pressure plates are still in excellent condition so I ordered replacement fingers and release bearing.

I've installed the new pp fingers however I need to know what the procedure is for setting up the pressure plate before it is installed back in the tractor.

Anyone have any insight?

Hi Dewie, from archives:
Hi, you can place all the clutch and pressure
plate on the shaft and bolt the engine to the rear
end. If you have removed the PTO clutch, make sure
to align the clutch carefully in the center of the
pressure plate, before replacing the bolts on the
fingers, for that, remove the flywheel, place it
on flat surface, put the traction clutch, the
plate, belleville spring, plate, PTO clutch, then
presure plate, belleville spring and cover. Align
all the parts, put the 3, 5/16 long bolts and hand
tight to the flywheel. Secure the 3 bolts on the
fingers and jam nuts, then adjust the gap. Make
sure to adjust the 3 fingers at the same level.
The gap for the 3 bolts is .090 inches. Remove the
pressure plate, replace the flywheel on the engine
crank and finish the job. Bernard le mecano

So Bernard's procedure is to remove flywheel and
mount clutches then do all the adjustments for the
gap, then remove clutches, reinstall flywheel and
put pressure and clutches on the transmission and
PTO shafts, put tractor back together and install
pressure plate to flywheel bolts through the
clutch inspection plate.

Hope this helps

That's the best information I have found so far - I'm having trouble picturing it in my head just yet but I'm sure with it in front of me I'll get it.

Thank-you very much for your help; I somehow missed that post in my search. Just out of sheer curiosity would you mind including the link to the original post?

Just to add to this thread as I'm sure others will be looking for the same thing in the future, the manual located in the following link outlines the procedure:
