Farmall Brake Drum

I am revisiting the brakes on the ole '45 H again.

Thank you too for pointing me the right direction on locating the bearing seal .. I was sort of on the wrong page. come to find out I will need a bearing too but that is a story for another day.

Here is my question. Looking in the parts manual and even the drum on the other side (left side) of the tractor has a jam nut on the under side. This supports an block that rests just short of pushing the lining to the rotating drum thus .. making a brake.

The left side looks a bit cobbled and the jam nut assembly is missing entirely and there are two holes.

Am I wrong in thinking I really don't need this or is this something that should actually be there. The photo is as I have removed it from the tractor.

Larger hole had the nut welded in with the jam nut & adjusting screw. The screw supports the bottom of the brake band so the brake doesn't drag. Install the brake band, adjust the free play, apply the brake fully & lock in place. Loosen the jam nut, tighten the screw then back off 1/2 turn and lock the jam nut.
Small hole is for drainage of liquid.

Ah .. then the second hole does belong there. The one the left side must be plugged under that layer of crud.

(quoted from post at 02:40:09 06/25/12) I have some covers around that I usually sell for $10 if you decide
to replace it.

I like your price Zack .. almost a shame it will cost almost twice that to ship it ?

Shoot me a full price (email is posted online here) to include S/H and we can work accordingly.

Thank you guys.

Sorry, I can't seem to make the email link work. I can ship one for
$12 in a flat rate box. Maybe you can send me an email, I have my
email open on both of my messages on this topic.

You can go to the CNH website and view parts diagrams. You can go to Messick's website and see if they still make the part and what it would cost. I use Triebold's site because they are my local dealer. They still use the old view that some people like. (me included)

The parts diagrams should give you instant answers on what is cobbled and what it should look like.
