SH hydraulic question

The hydraulic pump on my Super H works fine, but it is hard to get the control lever to release. You have to hit it really hard with the palm of your hand (several times) to make it work.
The dipstick is missing-wonder if it could have fallen inside and is jamming the comtrol?
Thanks

Not likely. Engine driven pump with reservoir under gas tank or belly pump? Engine driven does not have a reservoir dip stick. I just reassembled the one under the gas tank, without looking at the diagram, I imagine the release in the belly pump is similar. That is not a particularly easy repair when reassembling. Lift the lever up and push, banging on it is making the problem worse as you have two metal parts contacting each other. You must have worn a groove in one of them, but I would think you would have the opposite problem, that is not holding. How long has this been going on -- the previous owner may have put a stiffer spring in the hole it fits into.

D Slater is on to it. The " To make this easire, a secondary single acting open center spool valve used with a return hose from the valve to the sump of the belly pump. Jim

Try the other outlet. If you look at the parts diagram of the Super H hydraulic lift all, regardless of which one you have with belly pump or live pump, you will notice two different styles of check valves holding the load up. The one they call a differential check valve has a much smaller ball and therefore when holding heavy loads it is much easier and smoother too release to lower the load. If you are using two hoses, one on each side of what ever your are holding, you will have to T the two together to use the single outlet. I have over the years installed that style check valve to overcome just that problem you are having. If your H should happen to not have that small ball set up you can install it but you have to make sure the pin operating the ball is correct length so as to hold the load up when lever is in neutral position.

Your reply was most helpful and I will try another hydraulic outlet. I am using a single cylinder to npick up a mower bar so there isn't much presure on it. If I understand correctly, I would have to take the belly pump down to put new check valves in?
