starter problem

I recently bought a stage 1 Super H, and I have a problem engaging the starter. Has anyone out there had a problem with the lever which goes through the plate on the steering column that engages the starter. The starter on mine has been checked and is fine but the switch when engaged by the rod won't activate the starter. It appears that the rod is aligned with the switch. Is it the cheap switch I got from TSC or it a poor design?

I've had similar difficulties with a couple Super H tractors; also a buddy's BN. Problems were traced to a couple things:

1 - The TSC switch is not the highest quality. It's workable but not as well built as an OEM switch.

2 - The button contacts on the starter frames get worn/burned. So even a new, good switch will work poorly.

SOMETIMES you can make a new starter switch work on a worn button by elongating the holes in the mounting ears so it can be positioned closer to the contact. But a better fix is to have a starter shop replace the button and insulating bushing. (Unless you have heavy duty soldering tools the button is difficult to replace correctly.)
