I just noticed that my new Super C has a tag (like the date code) cast into the top deck that says 'L No. 1".

Any idea what that means, if anything ?

Thanks

Greg

I don't know, Jim Becker might. My 50 C has that too, my 48 C doesn't. My 48 C has USRC or something like that cast closer to the clutch pedal. L by itself usually means cast at Louisville, don't think IH cast them in Louisville at first. A lot of those markings don't mean much to the consumer, probably put there as some code that the factory used.

xactly. Those markings all meant something to somebody at some time. To the end user, they don't have much value. They could have been some batch id, possibly indicating which pattern was used, first run after some part or pattern change, outside supplier ID etc. Today part numbers and date codes are about all that usually provide much of interest.

The Louisville foundry didn't start until some time in 1949. Afte that date, castings still could have come from somewhere else.
