Brakes M Farmall Change from disc to band type

My 51 M has disc brakes and I want to switch to the band type. I have a 48 M parts tractor with bands. Do I have to change out the bearing cage as well? The spline shaft on the disc tractor has 29 teeth and is exterior of the case, whereas the spline shaft on the band type is interior to the case. I would think that the interior bearing cage connection is standard and would allow the change??

The differential bearing carrier (where the shafts come out)is not removable without removing the rear axles and bull gears. If the disk brake system has an adapter bolted to and splined onto the pinion shaft, to make it stick out, and if that can be removed, then that is what is needed. There should be a bolt and gasketed washer holding the brake drum onto the stub shaft in that carrier. Jim

The 29 spline part should slide off the regular IH shaft, Unless its stuck or rusted. The inside shaft of the splined sleeve is a regular M splined shaft. Bearing cage is regular IH and can,t be completly removed from the transmission housing without moving the bull gears out of the way inside the gear housing. Like Jim said there's a bolt in the shaft end. I just thought you already removed it. Also plate the inside brake disc contacted needs unbolted and removed before installing the band brakes. Put the parts tractor bolts back in the housings.
