Tractor Vet - Mounted Corn Picker II

Tractor Vet,
I saw in a post that you commented about mounted corn pickers. I have recently purchased an IH 234 picker that I am going to mount on a 706 with a 3pt hitch. My dad still has his NI 319 picker that we mounted to an IH 656 with standard drawbar. I would like to be able to mount the 319 on the 706. I know there are differences between the two tractors. Also, I read that you had made brackets to mount the New Idea pickers to the 706. I was wondering if you still had brackets to buy for this mounting? I don't have cutters or welders to do this on my own. Thanks!

Sorry to say that i do not have any axle mounting brackets left and god only knows where the patterns are now . as they were nothing more then a piece of cardboard for a templet and for the ubolts i had them made at a truck spring shop as needed. I used 8 inch channel iron and built off that for the over the axle mounts with 3/8ths flat strap welded to that along with a piece of angle iron. The 319's were the picker of choice back then and were the easiest to mount , a couple of hours and it was on with two guys.

Thanks Tractor Vet for your response. Will the NI sub frame that I have for the 656 standard drawbar work on the 706 with the 3pt hitch? I just need to get the axle mounting brackets and u-bolts for them, right? I agree about the NI picker. We bought ours in 1987, used, as we traded in our 2MH for it. What a big difference in mounting and dismounting. I sure do not miss lifting up/taking down that elevator on that 2MH picker. I just bought the IH 234 so I am anxious to see how that mounts/dismounts and works in the field.

Yes all you need is the axle mounting brackets that go on the axle and mount to the subframe and on 706's it uses TWo U /Bolts , where as the brackets for the 656 is the same as the M on up thru the 560's

As i was setting on the pourch i got to thinking on how i made them brackets for the 06's . Like i said i used a couple pieces of 8 inch channel iron and cut the one lip off leaving the one to the rear, then i cut four pieces of angle iron to conform to the angles on the axle housing and the u/ bolt that i had made conformed to the angles of the axle and each side used two U/ Bolts. Then ya make up the tabs that ya bolt the sub frame to with the two 1/2 inch bolts . Ya remove the three point hitch arm if it is three point and if it is a fast hitch ya have to remove the lower fast hitch bundle .Ya install your drive sprocket and adjust the driven sprockets to line up and install the drive chains , then ya back into the husking bed and hook it up and once that is done then ya drive into the gathering unit flip the clamps down over the axle brackets hook up the lift cylinders and and the drive shafts and go to the field.
