350 rear chassis ?

The rear tub on my 350 has been replaced. The color is slightly different than the rest of the tractor. My parts book shows 360553 R3 for the rear frame part number. On my tub it shows 367050R2.

What tractor did my rear frame come from ?

Could this have anything to do with the problems I'm having getting the clutches to adjust and lift properly ?

Thanks

Greg

Fits 460, 340, etc. If a later part would work in place of a previous one, IH would stop casting the previous part and use a later number. That may be a replacement part from IH instead of off another tractor. Not sure I understand what problem you have.

When I bought the tractor the TA was out. The rollers were all flat sided and crossways, so no surprise there. The cross shaft for the TA throwout bearing had been cut and rewelded. The top arm had been shortened by about an inch.

I put a rebuilt TA, new clutches, and a different cross shaft in. The TA didn't work. With the TA pressure plate bolted up to the TA clutch basket the pressure springs were completely compressed. There was no way the pressure plate could lift and release the TA clutch.

I made up some 1/8" shims to put between the pressure plate cover and the clutch basket. That gave it enough room to release and got the TA working. The clutch does not release by much (0.020 - 0.030") and it is still hard to shift. If there is any load on the transmission, the shift lever sticks in gear. No amount of adjustment will make it right. I have done it by the operators manual and by the service manual. Neither makes any difference ( nor are they that different).

Something is not right with this tractor. Sometimes when there is an odd problem like this, it is due to a previous repair that was not quite done right. One big thing that was replaced was the rear chassis.

So, I'm wondering if there is anything in the rear chassis that would make a difference with the TA ?

Housing shouldn't make a difference. Could be a problem with the linkage or release shaft if some parts were mixed with a 300. Is this a farmall or utility.
Pretty sure you have something wrong with the T/A clutch though. You say the springs are completly compressed, or is the fingers all the way in. With a cleaned up and good shape clutch carrier it pays to check the clutch before installing. With the carrier out of the tractor, new clutch plate and the parts bolted in carrier and on a flat surface the fingers should measure near 3.75 from flat surface to finger tips. Hey left a 3 out, adjust finger height to 3.375.
