706 pto just stopped

Over the weekend I was running my sprayer, pto driven
pump.I was running over the last rows off corns to empty the
sprayer out and noticed the pto quit.I checked fluid level
good.the pto shaft in the rear end housing is connected and
spinning.I pulled the test port plug with the tractor running
and no oil came oil, very little.moving the spool didn't,t help.I
don,t have a adapter to check the actual pressure. The whole
unit was rebuild,t this past winter.cut hay with it and all was
fine.i,l have find a fitting, for that test port, not sure if that
spool is stuck or something else.help, need some
direction.thank you.

If you have no oil coming out the check plug. The pump is not working or the valve came apart inside. The valve you can check from the bottom by draining the oil and pulling the drawbar off. The pump you have to pull the PTO out. The easiest way to do that is drain the oil and put a pipe over the PTO shaft as you need to tip the front of the unit up to get the suction tube out.

are you sure the pto stopped turning? have you taken the pump off to see if it spins? or tried to turn it by hand with the tractor off? this year my sprayer pump had frozen up and the pto coupler to the pump was just spinning on the input shaft of the pump.

Ah yep, sounds like the tiny little pin that hold the two parts of the valve sheared . Not the end of the world here. Ya don't even have to drain all the oil out . Remove the drawbar support , remove the linkage and top nut from the valve stem place a bucket under the bottom of the pto to cautch the little oil you will loose when ya pull the valve out and once the valve is out just put the plug back in finger tight . It is nice to get TWO of them little pins and i keep two in the glove box of my truck held between masking tape WITH PIN written on it . Now the down side of this barnyard repair is that you do not have the test fitting to reset lock up pressure. and a gauge that will read up to 600Lbs. You can order that fitting from Case I H and i have posted the part # several times . So if your going to own a 06 series and up I H having that fitting and gauge is a plus in the tool box . Set PTO clutch pressure with the Hyd. oil at operating temp at about 150 -180 degrees and set to 235 for a 706 , yea yea i know the book only calls for 195 to 215 the higher pressure i feel is better and ya ain't going to slip the clutch pac.

Thank you, i,am going to get that fitting.I'am going to wait to run the tractor till i get that fitting, don,t want to harm those clutches.thanks sir. steve
