hydraulic pump

I replaced the hydraulic pump on my international 300 and now it gets very hot when I run it, also when I raise or lower the draw-bar the engine speeds up. Could I have done something wrong when installing the pump or is the new pump defective?

Depends on how hot is hot. The pump is going to get hot. After all, it is connected to the engine and the engine gets too hot to touch. The action of pumping hydraulic fluid also builds heat.

The pump takes power to run, so any time you create pressure the governor is going to kick in and make the engine speed up a little.

If the engine doesn't sound labored when you're NOT running the hydraulics, everything is probably fine.

I think the screen and pilot orifice in the first valve is plugged up. If it is, it causes the system to be on demand all the time. When a lever is moved, the pressure drops to near nothing on simple hitch movement or low load, allowing the engine to be unloaded. Changing components will often cause unintended trash to be dislodged. Jim
