986 All Jammed Up

My friend has a 986, and in addition to the clutch being completely burned out, it also seems to be stuck in between gears, and can't be moved forward or backwards. I plan on separating the tractor to relace whatever is amiss, but to do so, we've got to tow it to my shop. Any suggestions on how to get it unjammed so we can tow it the quarter mile to my shop? Thanks.

the C gets locked up sometimes (between gears). i have been able to jack up one rear wheel and rock it back and forth, this will take pressure off of the tranny and allows me to shift.

It is probably just in the linkage under the seat. As that is where the linkage goes from the levers. The last best IH's was the 66 series.

It's pretty common for the 86 series to lock in two gears when the shift linkage get worn.

Star prying down under the cab with a spud bar on the linkage (don't go crazy and bend something) but you should be able to get it going.
