Bought this M at an auction yesterday at Bushnell, Nebraska. Would you believe that I only gave 200 dollars for it? The engine is stuck, and it doesn"t have a drawbar, but the sheet metal is in good shape and it has the Behlen power steering setup. I plan to scrap the loader, though. It has been broken and welded in several places.

Woof what a Buy. Look the loader over, It may be OK. One back tire if not radically cracked is wort it. Jim

Shoot you didn't even give scrap iron price for it. I hope you at least plan to save the loader cylinders if your going to scrap the rest of the loader. You may come close if not get more for the loader as scrap then you payed for it

WOW fantastic find! Even if the engine and transmission prove to be junk, you still have $1,500 worth of parts. Front end alone is worth around $500.

Looks like you done good to me!
That a f-11 loader? My SMTA had one on it when I bought it. The laoder was junk, couldn't sell it for $500, but cut it up for scrap. Sold the cylinders for $300. Probly got $100 for the scrap.

NICE! looks like a Dual 250 loader to me. not a bad loader for an M. Makes the one on my M look like junk! Any chance you would think of parting with that wide front?

Like posted below,It is MOST likely a "dealer repaint".

During the 350/450 era,if you brought your M back to the dealer for "updating", they would give it a MORE modern "two tone" paint job.

Back me up here veterans.

I think it was an on the farm trick more than a dealer repaint. Never heard of an official repaint program. For one thing, if it was official they would all have the same parts painted white. (same goes for the 400s)

Tons of M's out there . Go for the best profit there is on that . And that is part out the loader cylinders, $400, WFE $400, PS $600, various parts $350, and scrap the rest $300.
You can't fis it and sell it at a $2000 profit, no way.

I doubt there was an "official" update on the paint, it was just something individual dealers seemed to do "back in the day". Dad bought a 1953 JD 60 from the JD dealer in Elkader, Ia in the fall of '58 and the dealer had put the "updated" 620 paint job on it... just something they did to make it look newer.

Whereabouts are you located? I know a guy that is looking for a cheap loader to mount on a 656. He MIGHT be interested in yours......

Both farmers said they bought it new like that.

Sometimes you have to take 60+ year old remembered "facts" with a grain of salt. I suppose it's possible that the dealer could have painted them that way, but that's not likely.

Not to mention they fact that the 450s didn't exist from 1939-1955 to inspire the paint scheme. That was also before the days of dealer carryover. No such thing as a brand new 5 year old tractor on a dealers lot.
