Square sockets are available. Nothing else works very well at all. Measure across the flats and get a socket to match. NAPA should stock them. Jim

Try a couple of different sockets with an extension. You might have to take the left front tire/rim assembly off. Replace that square nut with a standard 3/8 inch by 6 inch galvanized water pipe with a plug. That is how the original was set up and a whole lot easier to drain next time.

A lot of times you can get a 12 point socket to fit just fine on those square plugs/nuts/bolts. The 6 point ones will not. Yep on many of the letter series it can be fun to pull the drain plug out. On a lot of them I find people add a piece of pipe so the plug is more out in the open and a guy can then get to them easier

i would not recommend removing the plug. there is a danger of breaking something. i loosen the lower radiator hose and drain the system. the c is of course different than an M.

Use a 12 point socket or purchase a square socket if the plug corners are worn round. Replace the plug with a pipe nipple and cap to make the job easier next time.
