flushing the block on an M?

Hey guys, going to be flushing the system (radiator/block), cleaning the radiator, changing the thermostat, hoses and the water jacket cover on saturday...Two questions:

1. I know how to drain the block but is there a way to ensure it is completly flushed? force water through the drain hole?

2. should I drain the block/radiator, remove the water jacket, clean anything out i can get to then flush the system/block or should i save that for last? (Im guessing i should do it first, makes more sense to me but wanted to make sure)

Either way is OK, but i would flush first then remove the side cover and clean between the cylinders. Jim
 

I flushed mine by opening the radiator drain, removing the radiator cap, and then used a garden hose to keep the radiator full while the engine was running and the dirty stuff ran out the bottom. Ran it until only clean water was coming out the drain. Probably not the most thorough way to do it, but I DID get a LOT of rust and crud out of the system.

That's what I did on my MD. I ran a shot of radiator flush through it first. Then I did just what you said.
 
To really clean and see what is in there remove the manifold and carburator. Then remove the water jacket cover.
 
I do as the others said, and if after the water jacket is removed and it justifies it ,I will remove the radiator and water pump. Get the power washer out and really blow everything out.
