Farmall A - PTO pops out

Hi guys,

Searched the archives and didn't spot a discussion on this.

Got the Farmall A out last night, sharpened the blades on the mower and started learning to mow with it a little. Very different from anything else I've used as I'm used to live PTO.

Challenge is that in the hour I was mowing, the PTO popped out of engagement at least a dozen times.

Setup is a 1945 A, manual lift, with a Woods L59 mower.

I've ordered the manuals but thought I'd ask in the meantime if there's anything in particular I should look for on this.

Your coupler shaft is worn and worst would be the main shaft in the tranny is rounded off. I have some good coupler shafts is you need one. Now you can remove yours and file it giving it some "new" edges to help hold it in gear. Never hold the lever to keep it enguaged or you will burn off the "button" on the shift lever. If you would like you can call me as ive helped some others with the same problem. 319-430-3907

I have the same tractor . I bought a shift assembly on ebay. bearing and spring were bad . It was cheaper to buy on ebay because bearing and spring were to exspensive. I bought the hold fork and shift assembly for $17.00.
