560 fasthitch raises itself, won't hold position

I have acquired a 560 that the fasthitch raises itself, and won"t hold
position. The other hydraulic pairs don"t seem to have this problem
-- they don"t adjust implement heights or settings on their own.
Any ideas?

The fast hitch control is VERY different from your typical hydraulic remotes.

There is a feedback linkage that runs from the hitch, up along the left side of the platform, to a series of linkages on the left side of the steering pedestal.

When you move the lever to a position, the hitch starts moving. As the hitch moves, it pushes on the feedback linkage until it reaches the position indicated by the lever.

In a nutshell, the lever opens the valve and the feedback linkage closes it to make the hitch stop moving.

Check that linkage. It may be broken. It was broken on the 460 I looked at a couple weeks ago, and the hitch would not stop moving up or down unless you moved the lever to "meet" the hitch at the proper position.

Checked the linkage, and nothing was broken, although I did
find where a common bolt had been used to replace a bolt that
needed a larger shoulder. This was in the linkage near the
cylinder. It created a bit of slop in the linkage, and I thought this
might be the problem. Found a bushing to fill the space, but
this did not solve the problem.
Found a big yellow X had been painted on the Tel-a-Depth Valve
Assembly... good indication that somebody else had defined the
problem... noticed that the extra movement of the fast hitch was
minimal (just a couple of little bumps) when the engine rpms
were down, but much more pronounced and repetitive when the
rpms were up.

Hmm, then the problem is internal to the valve. I wish I could find it again, but I read a blog several years ago online of someone's adventures in fixing the Tel-A-Depth system on a 560. He had to get into the valve and replace some gears in there, and get them timed correctly as I recall. Good gears are not easy to find and not cheap if you do find them NOS from what I remember. Probably worse now.

You can replace the Tel-a-Depth valve with a common hydraulic valve which will make the hitch behave like a 400 or 450's fast hitch. The valves are the same from the 300 all the way up through the 560 so they are relatively inexpensive.
