454 and 350 Utility

I may look at an Internationl 454. Were they a very good tractor? What were the problems with them and what should I be looking for?

I slao may look at a 350 Utility that was in a shed during a tornado. A beam fell down on the steering column. I understand the steering wheel was replaced but I was told it still steers hard. Would the steering system be fixable and could I get the parts?

I can speak some about the 350u - without power steering they always steer hard.If the tractor has had a loader in its life time there could be damage to the gear box. I don't think parts are available if the gears are damaged. My 300U had a loader and even the pivot pin in the front end had to be drilled and replaced. If a beam fell on it there would have to be damage to the steering column if there was damage at all and that would be noticeable. You may be OK with just the new steering wheel.

I have a 464 diesel and it is very similar to a 454, just slightly more power. My 464 is a very good tractor. It is very, very good on fuel and the hour meter has been broken at 15,299 for 10 years or better.

the repair for the 350 if it needs a new steering box wouls cost you about 1200.00 bucks. that would be with a Jackson Power Steering unit or you can get a remaned unit for about 1000 or so. you can fine scrap boxes also for less..I installed a Jackson unit in my 300U and its like a whole new tractor...
